The 10 Best Glamping Options in Costa Rica

Many are not familiar with the term glamping; glamping refers to “glamorous camping”, and is a new trend that has been extending throughout the world, and Costa Rica is no exception.

Glamping provides the possibility of enjoying an outdoors experience without sacrificing on comfort; which is the reason many do not like regular camping. Glamping includes tents, huts, villas, cabins, treehouses or teepees; a similar concept to what many times are known as eco-lodges.

Here’s a list of unique glamping experiences which can be found in the different corners of Costa Rica:

Maquenque Eco Lodge: Located in Cutris de San Carlos in the province of Alajuela, at Maquenque you can stay in a Tree House more than 12 meters high (40 feet), where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the surrounding rainforest. Although Bungalows are also an alternative, certainly the tree houses steal the show with a glass wall that lets visitors wake up to a green view and wonderful sounds of the forest. Canoeing in the natural lagoon and walking through the rainforest complete the experience.

Flor y Bambú: Playa Grande in Guanacaste, is an amazing destination in itself and a premium surf destination. Flor y Bambú offers tents for two and four people, simple, sustainable lodging option that even offers wireless internet and daily housekeeping. Relax and enjoy the serenity of this wonderful place.

Rafiki Safari Lodge: Stay in a luxury safari tent nested in the middle of the Costa Rica jungle. Rafiki is located in Perez Zeledón, about 1 hour distance from Manuel Antonio, this one-of-a-kind lodge is ideal for those looking for a completely different vacation experience. The tents are set atop a hardwood platform all with a wonderful view of the surrounding forest or the lake, electricity and fans are available, bathrooms are beautiful. Kayaking down the Savegre River and heading over to the beach camp at Playa Matapalo is an experience you can’t miss.

Dreamsea Surf Camp: Stay in a tent in Tamarindo, Guancaste, simple but comfortable, this place offers packages that include surfing and yoga classes daily as well as breakfast and buffet lunch. Enjoy Tamarindo to the fullest with access to the beautiful beaches and the nightlife of this town.

Finca Bellavista: Located near the Panama frontier, this incredible place will drag you away from the city life. Rustic treehouses with great views of the Piedras Blancas river, immersed in the middle of the forest, this treehouses do not have electricity or fridge, they do have a gas stove, and in general offer a great deal of comfort and a lot of privacy, however, in order to get to the room a 25-45 minute hike is required (depending on the treehouse you are in), so this is certainly not for everyone, plenty of eco-tourism activities to do in the area.

La Leona Eco Lodge: Situated in Corcovado, Osa Península, one of the most vibrant places you will find in the world, La Leona offers tent-cabins with a private deck where visitors can find inspiration with the spectacular views of the Corcovado rainforest and the Pacific ocean.

Jungle’s Edge: This place is found in the community of Nosara, Ganacaste just a few minutes from one of the best surfing spots in Costa Rica, Playa Guiones. This is a very affordable option for those that want to learn how to surf and enjoy the local wildlife. Tents do have electricity and fans, shared kitchen and dining room. Jungle’s Edge also has other more luxurious villas.

Manoas: Luxury and comfort in the heart of the Uvita jungle. Manoas accommodations also involve tents, each equipped with king size bed, full bathroom and enough space to relax and enjoy the wonderful views and the wildlife. There are also villas available that can accommodate up to 10 people. From here you can visit the famous whale tail at Marino Ballena National Park.

Ylang Ylang: Situated in the community of Montezuma on the southern tip of the Nicoya Península, this place has a laid-back and relaxing atmosphere that makes you forget about any problems or stress. Ylang Ylang features tent cabins, tree top canopy and bungalows, each catering to different needs and all with beautiful views of the tropical surroundings.

Faith Glamping Dome: In the beautiful Manzanillo, Limon. The domes offer the opportunity to be in touch with nature. Bed or beds, hardwood floor, deck, these are basically very comfortable tents where you can camp in the middle of the Manzanillo National Park, surrounded by nature, wildlife, and just a short walk from the beach.
