The Costa Rican police dismantled a criminal band that was offering luxury houses, drugs and women to tourists in the Jacó area. The police operations took place in five locations in Jacó, Puntarenas and La Uruca, San José.
The main target of this band were tourists with high purchasing power to whom they’d offer illegal drugs (marijuana, cocaine, LSD, etc.) and a catalog of women for sexual services for which they’d charge around USD$1,500.00 .
The band would use a “real estate business” to establish contact with the foreigners. “The owners of the houses will allow a “marketing” company to promote their properties for rent. The organization would then establish the contact through the internet, they paid the house owners the amount requested for the rent and they will offer the new “clients” drugs and sexual services”, explained Jorge Chavarría, attorney general.
One of the suspects arrested is a woman of last name Gaitán who was in charge of recruiting the women and administering the catalog for sexual services and delivering the drugs. The rest of the suspects are three men with last names Hincapié, Campos and Mora.
Hincapié lives in La Uruca and was responsible for transporting the drugs from San José to Jacó; while Campos collaborated with the distribution of the drug in Jacó and Mora was the provider.
The investigation began early this year when the police received a report of a person that felt “victim of sexual exploitation”.
