ICE Costa Rica to acquire cable TV operator Cablevision

ICE to acquire Cablevision Costa Rica

The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) of Costa Rica has gained the approval of the nation’s Commission to Promote Competition (COPROCOM) to advance the purchase of cable TV operator Cablevision.

Under the terms of the proposed deal ICE will become the owner of all shares, infrastructure, and services to Cablevision customers.

After reviewing the proposed purchase by the state company, COPROCOM issued a resolution in which it determined that there are no technical or legal disadvantages for the deal, and that it will not affect competition in the pay-TV segment.

Once the deal has completed, ICE may start offering directly triple play services which it has to date been offering through partnerships with other cable operators.
