The impact of poor dental health is greatest among children in Guatemala.

Due to an increased risk of long-term damage from poor dental hygiene as their permanent teeth grow in, children are a critical factor in breaking the cycle of poor dental health.

In partnership with Procter & Gamble and their Oral-B brand, Fondo Unido de Guatemala (United Way in Guatemala) is working to improve dental hygiene through Sonrisas Saludables en Walmart – Healthy Smiles at Walmart.

The project will benefit more than 1,500 children and adults, ages five to 60. Dental patients will receive personalized care in mobile Dental Vans, stationed at 14 Walmart stores over a six week period.

The Dental Vans will be equipped with specialized equipment to deliver a full range of dental services, along with two dentists and two dental assistants.

More than 30 patients will be seen daily over the course of the Healthy Smiles initiative.

In addition to receiving dental care, patients will learn oral health care tips, including tooth brushing and flossing instruction.
