Ssang Yong is back in Costa Rica again. The South Korean company utilizes Mercedes Benz drive-train technology to build off-road vehicles.
In 2009-2010 Ssang Yong ceased operations in Latin America due to the global recession. Now it seems that the Korean company has reorganized its Latin American department. First they returned to their most productive foreign market (Chile) in 2011. Then, they reinstated their markets in Columbia, Guatemala and Argentina.
Here in 2012, the foreign car builders have opened a Ssang Yong show room in Santa Domingo de Heredia, Costa Rica 50 meters south of the Delta Gas station on the Tibas – Santa Domingo highway. They also have a state of the art mechanical shop at the Condal Industrial Park in Colima de Tibas, building # 32.
Spanish investors put forth the funds to re-open the franchise in Costa Rica, which operates locally under the business name of Pantera Motors. Their new head of management, Juan Carlos Boade, has over 20 years of experience in the vehicle industry.
Ssang Yong specializes in producing rugged, capable vehicles combined with luxury and comfort.
