The sexual practice of swinging is basically understood as partner swapping, a practice in which both individuals in a committed relationship choose to have sex with others as a recreational activity and part of the couple’s sexual life.

The practice of swinging has been around for many years, some consider it actually began in the 16th century, but it became more popular in the 20th century, especially with the appearance of contraceptive methods and sexual openness.

Some couples adopt this lifestyle to fulfill a fantasy or spice up their relationship, others simply because they like variety and frequent sex, while many others find it more acceptable than affairs and even believe it can strengthen their bond.

Swingers form a “community”, one that has determined places where they meet and rules they follow, swinger clubs make it clear on their websites: only couples are accepted, all contact is consensual, no means NO, there’s no room for drugs or prostitution. Voyeurism and group sex between couples are the common practices for swingers. Some swinger clubs are restricted for heterosexual couples, others allow women couples.

In Costa Rica there are several Swingers Clubs:

High Dreams Club, Hotel & Spa: Located in the mountains of Rosario de Naranjo in Alajuela . According to their web page it’s an ecological refugee where erotism is lived and it is oriented toward the nude recreation of couples, ideal for heterosexuals that live the sensuality in a sexual atmosphere.

Pareja Total: This club allows selected singles in, a privacy agreement must be signed and a short interview is required for first time visitors, as a private club they reserve the right to deny entrance. They organize different events and activities in a weekly basis so that guests can “break the ice” in a more relaxed environment. They do not disclose their exact location (only by direct contact of those interested in attending), but it is known they are in the San Jose area.

Desire Hotel: This clothing-optional hotel, is intended only for open-minded adults. It sits in the mountains of Santa Barbara, Heredia, a secluded area surrounded by nature and a beautiful hotel that invites pleasure.

Copacabana Desire Hotel: This is also part of the Desire Hotels, it is located in Jaco, Puntarenas, also clothing-optional and offering night entertainment, beach activities and special events.
