The Eastern Conference’s top seed also held the Pistons to 43.6 percent shooting from the field and to just 15 points in the third quarter, when the home side grabbed a double-digit lead.

Detroit was led by center Andre Drummond, who scored 20 points but made just four of his 16 free-throw attempts.

The Heat, the East’s third seed, exploded for 43 points in the second quarter, 23 of them in the closing minutes of the first half, to defeat the Charlotte Hornets 115-103 Wednesday night at American Airlines Arena.

Veteran shooting guard Dwyane Wade led the way with 28 points, while the Heat went 9-of-16 from 3-point range compared to the Hornets’ 1-of-16.

In Western Conference action Wednesday night, the fourth-seeded Clippers rolled to a 102-81 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers thanks to 25 points from star point guard Chris Paul and a strong performance by the bench, which contributed 43 points.

The Clippers also showcased their improved defense on Wednesday night at Staples Center in Los Angeles, holding the Blazers’ star point guard, Damian Lillard, to 17 points on 6-of-22 shooting from the field.

As a team, Portland made just 34.1 percent of its field-goal attempts.

The Clippers led by just six points at the end of the third quarter but outscored the Blazers 35-20 over the final 12 minutes of the contest.

The Pistons will host Game 3 against the Cavaliers on Friday night, while the Hornets and Blazers will try to get on the board in their series when they receive the Heat and Clippers, respectively, on Saturday. EFE

Betting on 3-0 NBA Playoff Series
