Brasilia, Jun 29 (EFE).- Some 3,350 Web sites have been set up to promote sex tourism in Brazil, press reports said.

The top city for sex tourism is Rio de Janeiro, which will host the Summer Olympics next year, the O Globo newspaper reported, citing a study by consulting firm Axur.

“Unforgettable erotic vacations amid the beauty and enchantment of Rio de Janeiro, on the coast of one of the world’s most sexually festive countries,” an advertisement on a sex tourism Web site identified by Axur reads.

The Justice Ministry has been targeting sex tourism and blocked 2,165 Web sites operating in different countries between 2012 and 2014, O Globo said.

The number of Web sites in operation, however, exceeds those blocked by the ministry, the newspaper said.

Brazil welcomed nearly 6 million foreign tourists in 2014, but officials do not know how many visitors were drawn to the South American country by Internet sex ads, the Tourism Ministry said.

Brazil plans to launch international media campaigns ahead of the Rio Olympics to combat sexual exploitation, a strategy previously employed during the 2014 World Cup, the government told O Globo. EFE
