The Contemporary art museum of Costa Rica based in San José is displaying works by Rebecca Alpizar in its “Para Verte Mejor” (The Better to See You With) exhibition until 4 August 2012.
This exhibition explores self-portraits, the artist’s key topic, by seeking new approaches to self-representation so as to offer spectators a large panel of image readings through reflection and acquisition of images.
By using photography and series of intimate and evocative images, Rebecca tackles dimension and the connection between spectators and private spaces. Thanks to the multi-layer engraving technique, the artist takes us to a place through its representation as an object. The whole represents a fragmented portrait the visitor is invited to piece together again.
Rebecca Alpizar was born in 1968 and lives and works in San José, the capital of Costa Rica. Her first exhibition took place in 1991. Since then, she has featured in five private exhibitions all across Costa Rica.
