Press Release/ Costa Rica has become an example that tourism is synonym of progress, wellness and social-economic growth, thanks to the fact that sustainability has become the fundamental core of touristic activity.
‘Last year we managed to take a position in the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) in representation of the countries in the American continent, which has allowed us to have an active voice in the analysis and the evaluation of incentives that impact world tourism. In this same line, we have shared our experience as pioneers not just in the implementation of sustainable tourism, but in the consolidation of sustainability as the base to our development model”, stated Mauricio Ventura, Minister of Tourism.
“Tourism serves a social function of taking development and wellness to the communities by contributing with the creation of jobs, fighting poverty, thanks to the distribution of the dollar throughout national territory, which has allowed the creation of productive links”, explained Ventura.
The projection of Costa Rica as a leader in sustainability is quite the advantage, since precisely in 2017 the United Nations declared 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, highlighting the impact of this industry and its social-economic importance.
The tourism industry in Costa Rica generates approximately 150 thousand direct employments and 450 thousand indirect employments.
