Located in the region of Sarapiquí, Heredia, in the North of Costa Rica this Biological Reserve was born in 1995 as a private effort of conservation, it encompasses 345 hectares of tropical rainforest under the category of National Wildlife Refugee. The Tirimbina Biological Reserve is a perfect place for those that enjoy eco-tourism and sustainable tourism.

This region is the home of diverse mammals like pumas, jaguars and sloths, tapirs, a wide variety of birds, 46% of the amphibian’s existent in Costa Rica and 60 different types of bats; this diversity makes it ideal for educational programs and investigations.

Some of the activities that you can experience in this reserve include: Chocolate Tour (A tour that provides information and cultural history of the cacao fruit and the wonders behind it); Bat Program (almost 50% of the mammals in Costa Rica are bats, the country has over 113 different species); Birdwatching Tour (a three-hour tour to discover some of Costa Rica’s impressive bird species); Frog Tour (Costa Rica is certainly one of the best places to discover this incredible amphibian).
