Costa Rica Tourism Video Enters International Competition

Sloth babies at the Sloth SanctuaryThe United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) wants to feature the creative work of it member states. On the occasion of the 21st Session of the UNWTO General Assembly, this UN-affiliated entity is launching its first ever UNWTO Tourism Video Competition.

All UNWTO Member States have been invited to participate in this competition. Submission of videos has been closed. The public is now invited to submit their votes.

The period of voting is open from 31 August 2015 until 10 September 2015. The winner will be awarded the People’s Choice Award at the 21st Session of the UNWTO General Assembly.

Voters are hereby reminded that they may only vote once. The 21st UNWTO General Assembly will convene in Medellin, Colombia this year.

The video below from Costa Rica was shown at more than 800 movie theaters across the United States and Canada earlier this year. Some of the theater counts provided by the Costa Rica Board of Tourism (Spanish initials: ICT) for this video campaign included: 190 in Los Angeles, 59 in Dallas, 138 in Houston, 82 in Tampa, 119 in Seattle, 82 in Orlando, 93 in Portland, 40 in San Diego and 55 in San Antonio, Texas.

The campaign video was produced in Costa Rica and has the participation of national artists, among them is Master Key, the renowned Costa Rican group who does voiceover for some of the animals in the video dedicating song to the Americans and Canadians that work too much.

The Save The Americans / Save The Canadians campaign will be extended from December 2014 to January 2016, with an investment of US$3.3 million (85% in the US and 15% in Canada).
