The CONCACAF Champions League also known as the Concachampions concluded another stage today.

The CONCA Champions follows the same principals as the famous European Champion League currently in qualifying rounds. In the case of the CONCACAF, a total of 24 teams participate, 9 from the North American region, 12 from Central America and 3 from the Caribbean. Usually it’s the teams from the North American region that dominate.

In the case of Costa Rica, two teams entered the competition, Heredia and Saprissa; Heredia was already eliminated Tuesday, while Saprissa suffered but managed to classify to the quarter finals with a draw 1-1 with Portland Timbers. Now only 8 teams remain and the competition will resume in February 2017 with the quarterfinal stage.

The eight qualified teams are:

Arabe Unido (Panama)
Pachuca (Mexico)
Pumas (Mexico)
Tigres (Mexico)
Saprissa (Costa Rica)
Dallas FC
NY Red Bull

In this next stage the match ups will be:

Vancouver Whitecaps vs. NY Red Bulls
Arabe Unido vs. Dallas
Pachuca vs. Saprissa
Pumas vs. Tigres

Saprissa’s has a big challenge ahead facing one of the favorite teams to win the Concachampions, the Costa Rican team has a short time to prepare and to improve its game as it has not been playing convincingly.
