Carolina Mauri, Costa Rica’s Minister of Sports, confirmed that the National Council of Sports and Recreation agreed to induct Xinia Alvarado Diaz, Rafael Ugalde and Jorge Arias Tuk to the Costa Rican Sports Hall of Fame.

The press conference was held in the National Stadium and had the presence of Mauri, the President of the Sports Hall of Fame, Carlos Cortés; Virginia Murillo, member of the Sports Council and Alba Quesada, Director of the National Institute of Sports and Recreation (ICODER).

The induction ceremony is scheduled for December 6 at the National Stadium.

Xinia Alvarado: Practiced volleyball and beach volleyball for over 20 years. She was the captain of the Zapote Volleyball team and of the National Team and was elected as the flag bearer for the Dominican Republic Pan-American Games 2003. She achieved the National Championship with her team, Zapote, 11 consecutive times. She also won 7 beach volleyball championships. She was awarded twice the National Sports Award as the best female athlete in the collective category.

Rafael Ugalde: He started playing basketball in 1962 while he was a student of La Salle High School. He debuted as a trainer in 1972 with the Female National Team. He won the bronce medal in the first Pan-American Games that took place in Guatemala in 1973. He directed the female Lacsa-Taca team in the First Division from 1976 to 2010 and achieved a total of 25 national championships and 11 sub-championships among other recognitions. The Female National Basketball Team earned one Central American championship and two sub-championships under his direction.

Jorge Arias Tuk: He participated as a basketball player from 1983-2007, achieving nine National Championships, he was five times winner of the Copa Tournament, earned the title of top national scorer, six MVP nominations, and rookie of the year in 1984. He was part of the National Basketball Team winning several tournaments.
