The 2015 Miss Costa Rica beauty pageant culminated over the weekend with the traditional crowning of the new Queen of all Ticos, who also received a sash, a bouquet, and an earful of snide comments about how the fix was in the entire time.
Each year, there seems to be at least one Miss Costa Rica contestant who:
A – Was not crowned Miss Costa Rica
B – Claims that a nefarious plot prevented her from being crowned
C – Expresses her dissent in a public forum
Pursuant to points A, B and C above, the contestant in question this year is Nicole Carboni Renault, a young fitness model and athlete who was blessed with ultra-attractive genes from an Italian father and a French mother. Miss Carboni has won various events in the Latin American fitness tournament circuit, including MuscleMania Prestige. She is also an activist dedicated to the humane treatment of animal companions. Now that she has been selected as runner-up to the Miss Costa Rica crown, Miss Carboni plans to focus her energies on helping the homeless and single mothers without economic support.
Before assuming her duties as runner-up to the crown, however, Miss Carboni seems to have sat down on her couch with her iPad and a bowl of sour grapes. On her Facebook Timeline, she posted the following update:
I will say, without any reservations, that this pageant was rigged. I also believe that Miss Costa Rica deserves something better. For this reason, I will not heed to the threats made against me in exchange for not telling the truth. I am an honest woman with values and principles, and that is why I need to tell it like it is.
And thus Miss Carboni proceeds to explain how two people involved in the management of Miss Costa Rica, which is owned by national television network Teletica, are very close to her family. Miss Carboni claims that she has been warned that these two people would say something negative about her if she went public with this exposé. She finished her Facebook update with a sexy photo that shows her on a beach, wearing a bikini and frolicking in the surf.
The reaction from Teletica was immediate, and it was published by entertainment reporter Angie Guerrero of online news daily CRHoy.com, who quoted a spokesperson from the network as saying:
We don’t have anything to say to such inexplicable statements that have no basis.
For her part, Miss Carboni retained two attorneys and sat with them for several hours after her conspiracy allegation. Apparently, both lawyers recommended that she remain silent for the time being.
