A planned group sex party involving two expats and three citizens of Costa Rica was crudely disrupted by the shooting death of a 28-year old man. The ghastly incident took place in Tibas, a community located in the northern suburbs of San Jose, and it is currently being investigated as a contract killing.

According to a news report filed by metro reporter Jorge Sancho Vargas of daily tabloid Diario Extra, the victim has been identified as Roberto Carlos Salazar Arroyo, an expat from Colombia. The late Mr. Salazar had been in Costa Rica for a few years, and he worked as a security guard at the El Pueblo shopping center, which is located just outside the downtown district of the capital city.

In the daytime hours, El Pueblo is a stylish shopping plaza that features elegant Colonial-style architecture. When the sun sets over San Jose, El Pueblo turns into a prime nightlife spot that sometimes turns dangerous. It was here in El Pueblo where Mr. Salazar arranged an orgy involving himself, two women from the Caribbean province from Limon, a man from Costa Rica, and a male expat born in Venezuela but naturalized in the Mediterranean Republic of Malta.

About two hours after midnight, the two women and three men traveled by car to a sector of Tibas where various love motels are located. The sex party was going to take place at the Ruta 32 motel, formerly known as El Eden. This particular love motel is a motor inn, which means that there is no lobby; guests must arrive in a vehicle and park inside a garage connected to a spacious bedroom.

According to the report by Diario Extra, the two women and the Maltese expat entered the bedroom to prepare for the sex party while the victim and the man from Costa Rica closed the garage door and paid for their stay. At that time, a Toyota Yaris suddenly entered the motel and headed directly towards the sex party room. A shooter stepped out of the car and shot Mr. Salazar various times, killing him on the spot. The perpetrator then ordered everyone into the room, locked the two women in the bathroom, and used a mobile phone to tell the party on the other line: “the job’s done.”

Agents from the Office of Judicial Investigations (OIJ) interviewed the two women and released them. The two men were further questioned because their testimony to police differed significantly. The spent casings picked up at the motel belong to a .38 caliber weapon.
