Hummus, kebab, falafel and other typical Middle Eastern foods have arrived in Samara, thanks to Israeli Elias Nassif and Italian David Rubini.
In mid-December, Falafel Cafe opened its doors in the Natural Center, where Samara Organics was previously located.
This small cafe offers fast food for those who are passing through or want something light. Orders can be for carryout or to dine in the restaurant.
“If you’re hungry or you want to go surfing, you want something quick. Here, in three or four minutes, your order will be ready. You can come through for something light if you’ll be dining at another restaurant later,” said Elias.
Since it’s a fast food restaurant, the menu is simple. There are two kinds of wraps and a salad option. Both wraps are made with a homemade pita tortilla and hummus. The falafel wrap has five small balls of fried, ground garbanzo beans with herbs. El Samareño has shepherd-style cooked kebab meat and tzatziki sauce made with yogurt, cucumber, garlic and olives that accompanies the meat.
Prices range from 2000 to 2500 colones ($4-5). If you’d like a sandwich combo, you can add the drink of the day for 3000 colones ($6), including fruit juices or coffee.
Falafel Café is very close to the beach, in the Natural Center’s gym and spa next to the school. Hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., closed Sundays.
