Famous sex tourist David Strecker who was arrested in September 4, 2015, and is a prisoner in La Reforma, will face trial in Costa Rica in November for allegedly having engaged in the promotion of the country as a destination for sexual tourism, this through several online blogs, his facebook page and you tube videos.
According to an article by Michael Krumholtz published in media website VICE “Strecker is being charged under is part of a 2013 human trafficking law that, among other things, prohibits the use of any media to promote the country as a “tourist destination accessible for the exploitation of sexual commerce or for the prostitution of persons of any sex or age.” Strecker claims he was simply providing recommendations to other sexual tourist like himself on “how to get the most of the prostitution industry”.
Strecker, known as “Cuba Dave”, was supposed to stand trial in August but he requested more time to prepare his defense. In his facebook page there’s a post asking for “money to help Dave”.
The act of prostitution is not a criminal offense in Costa Rica, but promotion of prostitution or the act of “pimping” is.
65 year old Strecker used to be a softball pitcher in Minnesota; however, he became known for his blogs where he gave explicit information about his experiences with prostitutes not just in Costa Rica but also in Cuba and Dominican Republic.
According to information published on his behalf on a website named Cuba Dave he has been able to raise a total of $6500.00 in the past and $5000.00 of it has gone to pay a series of legal expenses, which is why he needs to raise more money to pay for his legal defense.
