(EFE).- Cuban leader Fidel Castro has died at the age of 90, his brother, President Raul Castro, said Saturday in an address on state television. The Cuban revolutionary leader built a communist state, and for five decades defied the United States efforts to topple him.
The leader of the historic Cuban Revolution died at 10.29pm Friday local time (3.29am Saturday GMT), and his remains will be cremated as per his wishes, a visibly emotional Raul Castro said.
The president added that details about the funeral proceedings will be announced in the coming hours. EFE
