The emergency situation currently faced by several areas in Texas has caused the cancellation of flights to and from several countries to Houston, among them, Costa Rica where so far 19 flights have been cancelled, as reported by Aeris, the company in charge of the Juan Santamaría International Airport in Costa Rica.

The flights were scheduled between Saturday and this past Tuesday, August 29 and mostly include flights from the companies United Airlines and Southwest; this route will remain suspended through September 1st.

The airport in Costa Rica maintains normal operations, but Aeris recommends that anyone who had a flight scheduled with these companies and to/from Houston to communicate directly with the airlines for further information and in order to reschedule the flights. It is also convenient to check in with other airlines even if they haven’t reported cancelled flights at this time.

Avianca has already informed the cancellation of scheduled flights and will make arrangements for rescheduling without additional fees. This airline also mentioned that those passengers that had flights already planned going through Houston from now and until September 15 can change their reservation to go via Dallas or Miami or change their flight dates.

The George Bush International Airport in Houston, Texas had already suspended a total of 3,397 flights through this past Monday and according to the flight reports from this airport more than 2,000 more flights were suspended on Tuesday. Via social media they confirmed commercial operations to be suspended until further notice and limited to humanitarian flights and first responder support for hurricane recovery.

Huracan Harvey caused a lot of damage in the Houston area where it is estimated that at least one third of the area is covered with water, and even as rains are now receding, emergency services are working on rescuing victims of the flood.
