“Oxígeno” (Oxygen) is a unique complex based on the concept of “Human Playground” that will begin its construction in this last trimester of 2016 in San Francisco, Heredia and the fist stage should be ready to open doors in the first semester of 2018.

But this is not just another mall; what makes Oxígeno stand out from the rest of developments currently existent in Costa Rica, is the fact that it will include entertainment, sports, gastronomy and commerce for public of different age groups. This is the first project of this kind in Costa Rica and Central America.

The concept is similar to that of the Universal City Walk in Orlando, FL and L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California.

Oxígeno will be divided in four different theme based “worlds”; the first of which will be named “Vivir” (to live) and it will be a space with mobile infrastructure that will adapt accordingly for the presentation of circuses, theater, concerts, and other activities. The second sector, “Respirar” (to breathe) is inspired in sports and with the idea of practicing different activities such as climbing hiking walls, surfing artificial waves, practicing canopy, etc. “Sentir” (to feel) is the name given to the third “world”, and its inspired by fashion; recognized brands and designers’ stores both national and international will be found here; this sector will also host fashion shows. The last “world” will be “Ser” (to be) and it’s focused on children entertainment; a playground that will involve physical activities as well as cognitive abilities.

Each area will have stores and restaurants related to each thematic; movie theaters are also part of the concept as well as a covered green area that will provide a space for those that want to run, walk or practice physical activity.

“All sports and cultural events will be operated by Cuestamoras, we don’t just want to construct this complex but also manage it and create unique experiences” said Javier del Campo, commercial director of urban development company Cuestamoras to national newspaper La Republica.

Cuestamoras will invest over U.S. $200 million in this mega-project which involves an area of 200,000 square meters of construction and will be developed in three stages, the first and second will involve the areas of entertainment, sports , recreation and commerce, the third stage, which is expected to be concluded by 2020, is a condominium –residential area.

Cuestamoras will be donating the construction of two additional lanes in the road 111 (in front of the complex); also a roundabout is in the plans to help with the traffic and the construction of a boulevard-type four-lane street parallel to the train station, they’ve already donated the train depot to the INCOFER (Costa Rica’s Train Institute) and it’s currently in operation.
