The port town of Golfito in the province of Puntarenas receives many visitors every year mainly attracted by The Duty Free Shopping Center, but also because of the many beautiful beaches and National Parks located nearby.

A group of Costa Rican and North American investors in conjunction with the Municipality and the Regional Development Board, put together their efforts with the purpose of attracting more tourism to this area and promoting to its maximum potential the natural beauty of this region with the creation of the Golfito Marina Village.

This project includes docking ports for small boats and yachts, a shopping center, restaurants, hotel, villas and a boardwalk with parks and sidewalks which will include an investment of $50 million USD.

Pedro Abdalla, manager of the Golfito Marina Village indicated that the Golfo Dulce (Dulce or Sweet Gulf) has an unmatchable beauty which combines with the favorable conditions for boats since the mountains surrounding the area work as a natural wind barrier making for minimum waves.

The first stage of this project will be finished in January, with 50 docking ports, the fuel pier and the first one thousand meters of shopping center. The construction of the second stage will begin June 2017 and will be completed in approximately 14 months, and will have 82 docking ports, hotel and a restaurant on an island. The last stage is expected to be done by 2020.
Tours to different attractions in the area such as the Isla del Caño Wildlife Refuge will be offered.

Other close by touristic areas are: Zancudo beach and Pavones beach and crossing Golfo Dulce you can find Puerto Jimenez (Jimenez Port) the primary access point to the Osa Peninsula and Corcovado National Park.
