Guanacaste is not just about the beaches, here are some great options of places maybe you didn’t know existed in this wonderful province:

Buena Vista Lodge: At the foothills of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, you will find a property dedicated to forest regeneration. The hacienda has 5 different natural hot spring pools, a delicious way to relax surrounded by beautiful nature. The hotel also offers canopy and hanging bridges.

Rio Perdido Lodge: Located in Bagaces, Guanacaste this 600-acre private reserve, has several dozens of small natural pools with different temperatures and an impressive canyon view, the hotel is catered to wellness and adventure, among the activities offered there’s: hiking, white water tubing and canopy canyon adventure.

Rio Negro Hot Springs: Located within the Guachipelín Hacienda, where the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano functions as a natural heater of the Rio Negro water. The hotel has created 10 pools for visitors to enjoy the mineral-rich water. The hotel offers one-day passes for those that only wish to enjoy a day in the soothing hot springs. Llanos del Cortes Waterfalls: Just 9 miles southeast of Liberia, in Bagaces, this local secret is an excellent option specially if you are visiting during the months of December and May. The Potrero River creates this wonderful swimming hole with a 30 meters high waterfall. Access is easy and its common to find many locals hanging out in the area.

If you are traveling with kids and are looking to give them an unforgettable experience, you can consider  La Ponderosa Adventure Park or Africa Safari Adventure Park is also among the preferred activities for kids, located in Liberia, visitors will get a chance to see giraffes, zebras, emus, watusis, and soon tigers, among other incredible animals. This park also offers tours to different waterfalls. In 2017 there should be another option of entertainment, Water Kingdom in Bagaces, a water-park with different slides, pools, parks and attractions for the younger members of the family; this project opened doors some years back but is currently under restructuring.
