The star goalkeeper from the Real Madrid Club de Fútbol has found a new job. Nonetheless, fans from the legendary Merengue club need not worry: Keylor Navas is not transferring to a rival faction in La Liga; he is simply working on the side as the new Tourism Ambassador of Costa Rica. Such is the news from a recent press release issued by the Tourism Board of Costa Rica (Spanish intials: ICT).
The announcement by ICT was made during FITUR, a major tourism expo that is taking place in Madrid until February 1st. FITUR is one of the most important tourism industry events in Europe, which is why ICT took advantage of the situation and appointed Mr. Navas as our new Tourism Ambassador. According to ICT Minister Wilhelm von Breymann:
We are taking advantage of one of the most important events within the global tourism industry to give recognition to the charisma and good character of Keylor Navas, who has elevated the name of Costa Rica thanks to his humility, candor, tenacity, professional development, and pride. He has made our country very proud, and thus we are pleased to have him representing us as Tourism Ambassador.
Mr. Navas is considered by many to be the best goalkeeper in the world of professional football. He was born in San Isidro, in the Valley of the General, located in the southern portion of the San Jose province. In the past, he has played with Deportivo Saprissa, Albacete of Spain’s Second Division, and Levante of La Liga. After a stellar performance with the Men’s National Football Team during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Mr. Navas was acquired by Real Madrid after Los Blancos took the coveted 2014 UEFA Champions League.
Knowing that one of the best goalkeepers in the world plays for one of the best football clubs in the world is a cherished source of pride for Costa Rica.
