Costa Rica and Honduras men’s national teams tied to one goal in the fourth game of the hex part of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifiers.

The first half of the game was defined by rough exchanges between both teams, the referee didn’t call a penalty to Celso Borges in favor of Costa Rica but later didn’t call a fault in favor of Honduras, referee Joel Aguilar Chicas had a questionable performance throughout the whole game, Costa Rica’s “La Sele” dominated throughout most of the game but was unable to capitalize on any of the opportunities to score, Honduras, on the other hand, had fewer chances to score but they managed to open the score at minute 34′ with a goal by Anthony Losano.

In the second half Costa Rica’s game improved, looking more organized with the assistance of David Guzmán and later Christian Bolaños and Yeltsin Tejeda, La Sele was able to even the score at minute 68′ with a corner by Christian Bolaños that was perfectly positioned for Kendall Waston to score a header.

Although La Sele’s performance was far from the best this allows them to bounce back from their loss to Mexico last week, and with this tie in Honduras, Costa Rica saved another point, adding to seven, and consolidating their position in the hex, while Honduras was left in a bad situation with just four points.

The positions in the group will be defined by the results of the Mexico vs. Trinidad & Tobago and USMNT vs. Panama matches later today.

Costa Rica’s next game is scheduled for June 8th when they will measure up against Panama, while Honduras’ will have to face Mexico next.
