Former glamour model Evelyn Gonzalez is known in Costa Rica for her lingerie runway shows and seductive spreads on publications such as Diario Extra. These days, however, Miss Gonzales is a consultant for the Libertarian Movement, a political party under the leadership of former presidential candidate Otto Guevara, a staunch supporter of Uber. She is also the new candidate for the Mayor’s Office of Heredia, a populous canton that is part of the Greater San Jose Metropolitan Area (Spanish acronym: GAM).
According to a news report filed by entertainment journalist Ariel Chaves Gonzalez of daily tabloid Diario Extra, Miss Gonzalez is not ashamed of her former profession, which involved parading nearly naked at dance clubs and posing seductively for the camera. She explained:
Yes, I was a model. It was an important stage of my life when I was very young, and I learned a lot. Later, I went to law school because that is my passion. I chose politics because I found that this is a good platform to change people’s lives in Costa Rica.
I have exercised an important, ad honorem, function within the Libertarian Movement, particularly with regard to the collective bargaining issues that harm our country. All life experiences forge the human condition. Past experiences, everything that is lived, should be taken in stride and considered as stepping stones towards a certain goal. We will find good and bad experiences, and for this reason we should take steps forward, not backwards.
I have been amazed at how people can judge me so easily whether I am an ideal candidate solely based on my past. I have seen, with deep disappointment, how these prejudices and judgments spring forth because they do not fit certain stereotypes that society does not agree with.
Furthermore, Miss Gonzalez believes that young voters will be crucial in the next municipal elections, which will be held across all 81 cantons in Costa Rica. Her campaign literature makes emphasis on her past as glamour model.
