Two of the biggest global names in financial news media have recently expanded to Costa Rica and the rest of the Central American Isthmus. Bloomberg TV has teamed up with El Financiero of Mexico to launch a multimedia platform that will broadcast in Spanish, and Forbes announced the debut of a print magazine dedicated to Central American financial news.

According to an official press release by Bloomberg, their new Spanish language business news service aims to redefine:

[…] business journalism in Mexico and Central America, it will provide local business and financial news plus comprehensive global market coverage. The content will appear on what will be the only Spanish-language, business news television channel in Mexico and Central America as well as across digital platforms and in print.

The gala inaugural event in Mexico was attended by President Enrique Pena Nieto. The new Bloomberg TV Central America is currently available on SKY Channel 630 in Mexico and will be expanding to providers in Costa Rica over the next few months.

Daily tabloid Diario Extra may seem like an unlikely ally for the staid Forbes media empire, but executive vice president Marco Landucci paid them a visit, gave an interview and even pitched them a distribution deal for their readers.

Mr. Landucci explained to Ariel Chaves Gonzalez of Diario Extra that he sees greater financial integration by Mexico in Central America and certain Caribbean markets. To this end, Forbes plans to open offices in each country. The cost of each issue will be $5.99, and the initial print run in the region will be 45,000 plus 15,000 to be distributed in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The first issue is scheduled for April and will feature an initial listing of the wealthiest people and most powerful families in the region. Ramon Mendiola of Florida Ice & Farm (brewers of the iconic Imperial brand and many others) is on the list as well as five families, some of which were profiled by the Costa Rica Star in the 2012 article Movers and Shakers: Five Families, Individuals and Entities to Watch in Costa Rica.

As expected, Auto Mercado will carry Forbes Central America in Costa Rica, and so will La Casa de las Revistas.
