Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Samuel Santos Lopez voiced his country’s support for Iran’s nuclear program.

“We have always supported Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and believe that all countries are entitled to peaceful nuclear energy”, said Lopez to reporters on the sidelines of the foreign ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran on Wednesday.

He further hailed excellent ties between the two nations, and said, “We will make our best efforts to further enhance all-out ties between the two countries.”

He said his country has frequently declared its opposition to stockpiling of weapons of mass destruction which are detrimental to the humanity.

He further said that holding NAM Summit signifies Iran’s might and higher status in the world.

Despite the West and arrogant powers’ efforts to dissuade the countries from attending the event, NAM members have massively participated in the Summit, he added.

NAM member states pursue materialization of the objectives of the major world body to benefit all these nations, he said.

The NAM ambassadors issued a five-page statement on Thursday, voicing their support for Tehran’s peaceful nuclear energy activities, he added.

Washington and its Western allies accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate their allegations. Iran denies the charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

Tehran stresses that the country has always pursued a civilian path to provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry.
