Miami, Feb 8 (EFE).– The cruise ship Anthem of the Seas of the Royal Caribbean company will dock within the coming hours at Florida’s Port Canaveral after coming through an unexpectedly dangerous storm in the Atlantic that damaged the vessel and left four people injured.

The ship, which had sailed from New Jersey last Saturday on a seven-day cruise, was overtaken by a winter storm off the coast of the Carolinas with winds of up to 160 kph (99 mph) and powerful waves.

So intense was the storm that the captain ordered passengers to remain in their cabins, after experiencing “extreme wind and sea conditions,” the cruise company said in a statement.

A number of passengers posted on their Twitter accounts photos and even a video of the storm, which rocked the cruise ship with giant waves and brought the roofs of some corridors crashing down, smashed windows and knocked over furniture.

On its Twitter account, the Anthem of the Seas said the ship had suffered damage in public areas and staterooms and that four people were injured, though none of them seriously.

Damages to the vessel “in no way affect the sea worthiness of the ship,” which will sail on to its destination, the statement said, the statement said.
