Four suspects remained at large Friday morning after pulling off a brazen robbery of a branch of the Banco de Costa Rica (BCR) in Puriscal Thursday afternoon.

According to the Judicial Investigative Organization (OIJ), the robbers gained access to the bank shortly after the branch closed to the public by dressing and posing as employees of the Costa Rican Postal Service that were there to deliver documents.

After being admitted entry by a guard, the armed robbers were able to subdue, tie and gag at least five bank employees who remained inside, locking them in one of the bank’s vaults.

The robbers were able to make off with some ¢80 million, or about US $150,000, in cash from teller lockboxes as well as an ATM that was in the process of being filled.

Police discovered on Thursday night an abandoned car that is believed to have been the suspects’ getaway vehicle.

The suspects remained on the run as of Friday morning.

The bank employees were reportedly unharmed during the incident.
