The Turrialba Volcano in Costa Rica has maintained relatively calm in the past weeks with just the regular column of gases and vapor that can be seen coming from the crater and occasional small eruptions. This Monday, however, the volcano registered an important column of ash that reached close to 500 meters above the crater, 3840 meters above sea level (12,595 ft above sea level).

The direction of the winds carried the ash to areas such as Guapiles, Pocoa and other surrounding locations.

According to the National Seismology Network the eruptive activity began the evening of September 30th and extended through the Monday morning.

When it comes to the other active volcanoes in the country, (Poas and Rincon de la Vieja) both remain calm and have not presented any eruptions recently.
