A total of 250 athletes, 130 male and 120 female, will represent Costa Rica in the XXIII Central American and Caribbean that will be taking place in Barranquilla, Colombia from July 19 through August 3.

The disciplines in which Costa Rica will have representation are: swimming, water polo, athletics, badminton, handball, bowling, cycling, soccer, gymnastic, golf, judo, karate, weight lifting, skating, racquetball, rugby, taekwondo, triathlon, archery, sport shooting, fencing, volleyball and horse riding, in total 23 out of the 36 disciplines that will be disputed in the Central American and Caribbean Games.

Participating countries are: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curacao, Dominica, El Salvador, Granada, Guatemala, Guyana, French Guinea, St. Lucia, St. Martens, Surinam, Honduras, Haiti, Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, British Virgin Islands, Panama, Martinica, US Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago.

Athletes were sworn in by President Carlos Alvarado, in an event that took place in the Olympic Committee in Coronado and with the presence of the First Lady, Claudia Dobles, the president of the Olympic Committee Henry Nuñez and the Minister of Sports Hernan Solano, among others.

“As with everything in life, the most important thing is to give the best of us, working as a team and supporting each other”, commented President Alvarado, who highlighted that “young athletes represent one of the main pillars of this wonderful country”.
