The annual Que Lindo (How Lovely) art fair, held on Friday, January 24, at the Natural Center in downtown Samara, attracted close to five hundred visitors, eager to see the artwork, as well as to enjoy some guitar music and sample the goods being sold simultaneously at the weekly Samara Organic Market.

The fair took place from 2 to 6 p.m., about 30 local artists and artisans showed their colorful creations, ranging from watercolor and acrylic paintings to jewerly, clothing, masks and fused glass.

Watching demonstrations of how to make traditional Guatil pottery was a special treat. Children enjoyed hands-on activities organized by CREAR, and a silent auction of donated art raised 37,000 colones ($75) to support CREAR’s after school children’s program.

The event was such a success that afterward there was talk of making it a monthly event during high season. “We, the original committee of three, have decided to keep Que Lindo Art Fair an annual event but maybe some of the artists will take up the challenge to produce something more frequently. Time will tell,” said Lavae Aldrich, one of the event organizers.
