The alert was given by family members at around 1:30 p.m. this Wednesday, April 24, that their son had disappeared in the waterfall of La Fortuna River in San Carlos, Costa Rica.

Unfortunately, after several hours of searching for the young boy, the rescue teams confirmed they had found the body of the minor 30 meters (100 feet) from where he had been seen last.

The child was 8-years-old and a native of Switzerland, apparently his family is in the country on vacation and staying at Hotel Roca Negra, they were enjoying the area near the river when they lost sight of the boy. The boy apparently fell and hit his head, he was found in a small pool hole about 1 meter deep (3.3 feet), because of the foam on the surface it wasn’t until the father and a member of the rescue team got into the hole that they found the body of the boy.

The case is now under investigation by Costa Rican authorities (OIJ).

La Fortuna Waterfall is a popular tourist site surrounded by dense forest and part of the Arenal Volcano National Park.
