One of the most interesting and unexpected mashups in the history of comic books will unfold in the lush forests of Costa Rica. Archie Andrews, known to comic book lovers worldwide as the one of the best friends any teenager can hope for, will face off against one of the most abominable and fearsome alien beings in the fictional universe. According to a recent press release by Dark Horse Comics, a very successful publisher in the United States:

America’s favorite teen meets the galaxy’s fiercest hunter! Dark Horse Comics and Archie Comics are proud to bring you spring 2015’s hottest crossover: Archie Meets Predator.

Archie and friends hit Costa Rica for spring break, where party and beach games soon get replaced by the most dangerous game! What mysterious attraction does the gang hold for the trophy-collecting Predator, and will the kids even realize they’re in danger before it claims them all?

With writer Alex de Campi (Grindhouse, Lady Zorro, Smoke/Ashes) at the helm, with artist Fernando Ruiz, things are going to get wild quick.

“In the grand tradition of Archie Meets the Punisher and Archie Meets Kiss, we’re unbelievably excited to partner with Dark Horse to show what happens when the Predator comes to Riverdale,” said Archie Comics publisher/co-CEO Jon Goldwater. “It’s going to be a surprising, energetic, and must-read series, and we’re so glad Alex de Campi and Fernando Ruiz are joining forces to tell this off-the-wall story.”

 

Dark Horse made the announcement during this year’s New Year’s Comic Convention, which is currently taking place at the Javits Center in Manhattan. This offbeat comic book is scheduled for April 2015.

 

Although Archie is not commonly known as an adolescent who would battle extremely violent and dangerous alien beings, he has seen his fair share of action. In fact, Archie’s upcoming face-off against the Predator will be sort of a resurrection. As reported earlier this year by The Guardian, Archie was downed by gunfire while doing what he does best: Being a stand-up guy and a true friend:

 

The long-running comic book character Archie Andrews, 74, died on Wednesday. He was shot at Pop Tate’s restaurant in Riverdale while protecting his friend Kevin Keller, a newly-elected senator and a campaigner for gay rights and gun control, from an assassin’s bullet.

He is survived by his wife, Veronica; his wife, Betty; and his teenage self, twice over, who lives on in two separate comic universes. His teenage adventures at Riverdale high school, in the comic Classic Archie, will continue – the company that publishes them, Archie Comics, is looking forward to the character’s 75th anniversary. He is only dying in the shorter-running, separate storyline Life with Archie, in which the character is an adult.

 

There is no word on what plans Dark Horse Comics may have in store for Jughead.
