Just in time for Christmas, residents who live near La Sabana Metropolitan Park in the lovable city of San Jose will be able to enjoy a wide selection of arabica coffee beans from around the world, including one strain from Costa Rica, at the fifth Starbucks cafe to open in this country. According to market reporter Cristina Fallas Villalobos of business weekly El Financiero, the world’s largest coffee retailer may even start 2015 by opening its sixth Costa Rica location in the province of Heredia.

Monica Bianchini, country manager for Starbucks in Costa Rica, explained to El Financiero that:

We decided to open [a new cafe location] in La Sabana due to its high concentration of office buildings, corporate parks, residential areas, and the many outdoor activities that the area offers.

This planned Starbucks will feature a larger indoor seating area in comparison to the existing four cafes located in Avenida Escazu, Lincoln Plaza in Moravia, Plaza Freses in Curridabat, and District 4 in Escazu. The outside terrace will also occupy greater space, and generous parking will be offered to caffeine lovers.

Ms. Bianchini did not confirm the opening of a sixth location in Heredia; nevertheless, El Financiero cited information from confidential sources in this regard. In Costa Rica, Starbucks offers one domestic roast, the Bella Vista. In the United States, several coffee strains from our country can be enjoyed at a Costa Rica-themed Starbucks in Disneyland, Southern California.

As the opening date for his new Starbucks in Costa Rica gets closer, lively debate between Starbucks enthusiasts, coffee purists and anti-globalization activists is bound to stir up the hornets’ nest. As previously discussed in this publication:
