Keylor Navas, the star goalkeeper of the Real Madrid Football Club of the Spanish League and of the National Men’s Football Team of Costa Rica, is keeping odds makers and line movers on their toes. Sportsbooks in Costa Rica and betting shops around the worlds are quickly reacting to news reports that indicate Mr. Navas is not in top shape to play the next two or three matches for either his Spanish club or his beloved national team.

Physicians and fitness trainers at the Real Madrid have determined that the star goalkeeper, currently one of the best in the world, has been overworking his right hip abductor muscle, a situation that will leave him out of the starting lineup for a few weeks. In fact, the Costa Rica Football Federation has already called up goalkeeper Leonel Moreira of Club Sport Herediano (CSH), who will substitute Mr. Navas in the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Haiti and Panama, which will be played in November. CSH is the current First Division Champion in Costa Rica, and its majority shareholder is an expat businessman from the United States.

Costa Rica can choose to start Mr. Moreira, Esteban Alvarado or Daniel Cambronero in Mr. Navas’ place. Real Madrid has already chosen to start Kiko Casilla in the match against Sevilla, according to Spanish sports news site Marca.com. Fans of Real Madrid are hoping that Mr. Navas has recovered by the time the next match against Barcelona (El Clasico) comes around; this is one of the most anticipated matches around the world, and it keeps sportsbooks and betting shops very busy.
