Mexico City, Nov 9 (EFE).– The coach of a girls’ basketball team in the southern state of Oaxaca was shot to death by a father who was angry with the decision not to let his daughter play in a game, Mexican authorities reported Monday.

The incident occurred at a sports facility in Oaxaca on Sunday after a game in which Guillermo Audelo, 33, had coached his team – the Dragons – police told the noticias.net.mx news Web site.

A father, who had become enraged that his 11-year-old daughter had not been allowed to play in the game because she arrived late, argued with the coach and at the end of the game confronted him at the doors of the gym and shot him five times.

After shooting the coach, the suspect, a singer, fled with his daughter and his wife in a taxi, eyewitnesses cited by the Oaxaca media said. The family’s whereabouts are presently unknown. EFE
