Tegucigalpa, Nov 28 (EFE).– A nurse of the humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders, or MSF, kidnapped last Nov. 25, was found murdered Saturday in a village near the Honduran capital, officials said.

The body of nurse Henry Marcial Matamoros, 45, was buried in the mountain village of Yaguacire on the south side of Tegucigalpa, and was discovered by a group of people gathering firewood, a police spokesperson told local media.

Matamoros was apparently kidnapped last Wednesday by unidentified assailants when he went to visit a female nurse near the village where his body was found Saturday.

“He was a very special person, so loved in the village, he looked after everyone. We can’t understand why they took this cruel decision,” a sister of Matamoros told local media, which did not give her name.

Matamoros worked as a nurse with the Doctors Without Borders organization, his sister said.

Honduran authorities have launched an exhaustive investigation to find out the causes and circumstances of the man’s abduction and subsequent murder.

Official sources have not stated whether the victim was of Honduran nationality.

Violence in Honduras accounts for an average of some 14 murders a day for different motives, according to local authorities. EFE
