New York, Dec 6 (EFE).– A rare copy of The Beatles’ “White Album” sold for a record $790,000 at an auction of items belonging to the band’s former drummer, Ringo Starr, Julien’s Auctions said.

The record, a first edition of the British band’s classic, was purchased by an anonymous buyer.

Starr is donating part of the proceeds from the auction to a charity he founded.

The drums used by Starr in more than 200 concert appearances and during the recording of hits like “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand” sold for $2.1 million on Friday.

Jim Irsay, owner of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts, purchased the drum set, which will join a collection that includes guitars that once belonged to three other members of The Beatles: John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison. EFE
