Art City Tour San Jose, Costa Rica

San Jose, March 8, 2016 – The second edition of Art City Tour 2016 will take place Under the slogan “San Jose Dreams, San Jose Designs.” The Tour will welcome the International Design Festival (FID), and it aims to connect the cultural center of San José to La Sabana.

More than 2,500 people are expected to take advantage of the free bus rides departing from various points of the capital such as the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, Central Bank Museum, National Museum, Calderon Guardia Museum, Costa Rican Art Museum, and the Jade Museum of pre-Columbian culture.

More than 58,000 residents and visitors have enjoyed the 37 uninterrupted editions of the Art City Tour, which has been going strong since 2010. This year, the tour adds the Essential Costa Rica country brand to bring more awareness about the integral values ​​of excellence, sustainability, innovation, and social progress of Costa Rica.

“This is the fifth year in a row that we organize the Tour to welcome the International Design Festival, one of the most important design events in Latin America. This is an opportunity to experience the city through the world of design,” said Henry Bastos, Director of the Art City Tour.

There will be four van routes for the Tour: Credomatic (A), North (B), Volkswagen (C) and La Sabana (D). Their departure points are: the National Museum, the Central Bank Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, the Jade Museum of pre-Columbian culture, the Calderon Guardia Museum, and the Museum of Costa Rican Art.

Among the many new events in this second edition of the Tour in 2016, a mural at the Ricardo Jimenez Boulevard stands out as well as the FID exhibits at the Steinvorth and at Talentum Art Gallery.  The Chancellery (Casa Amarilla) will feature a special tour at 5 and 6 pm- including the Golden Room, the Blue Room and the facade. The bike path will be managed by ChepeCletas and Kickbike Costa Rica; it will depart Parque España at 7:00 pm and will feature free bicycle Valet Parking in two spots thanks to a partnership with CR CicloParqueos. Parking will be available at the MADC and Museum Rafael Angel Calderon Guardia starting at 5:30 pm In these two spots you will be able to park your bicycle without having to worry about applying a safety lock, and you can walk and enjoy the cultural spaces in the vicinity, or take the minibuses to visit other sites.

For pedestrians, the International Centre for Heritage Conservation (Costa Rica) will feature a tour that will depart at 5:30 pm the National Children’s Hospital bound for the Costa Rican Art Museum. This tour will feature history and tales of the city.

The Art City Tour was born in February 2010, and it has gone through 37 editions.

In addition to this second Tour this year, there will be fashion tours on May 11, holiday tours on July 13, rainy tours on September 21, and a white night tour on November 18.
