A 38-year-old German tourist was killed in a violent head-on collision in the Quebrada Amarilla sector of Jaco, Puntarenas on Saturday, according to authorities.

The deceased was identified as Erick Eiseld, who had been in Costa Rica for several days on vacation, according to reports.

According to the initial investigation, Eiseld, for unknown reasons, veered into the oncoming lane of traffic when he was struck head on by an oncoming SUV, though officers of the Transit Police and the Judicial Investigation Police (OIJ) are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, which occurred sometime around 2:30 p.m.

The occupants of the other vehicle, a family of four, suffered non-life threatening injuries. Eiseld died of his injuries shortly after arriving at an area hospital.

Eiseld’s remains were transferred to the Forensic Sciences Complex in San Joaquin de Flores, where medical staff will likely check for the presence of drugs or alcohol.
