UPDATE: German man suspected of killing Costa Rican woman identified as more details emerge

 

Costa Rican police officers made a grisly discovery in the early morning hours Thursday after stopping a suspicious vehicle in the area of La Virgen, in Sarapiqui.

 

According to preliminary information, residents of the area alerted authorities to a suspicious vehicle that seemed to be driving aimlessly in the area shortly before 3 a.m.

 

Police officers responded and stopped the vehicle, driven by a German citizen, who had with him a dead woman.

 

The German man reportedly confessed at the scene that he had beaten the woman to death, who was apparently his romantic partner.

 

Apparently, the man had been driving around the area looking for a place to bury the woman.

 

The 50-year-old victim was identified by the last names Esquivel Alfaro.  The identity of the German man was not immediately released.
