Massachusetts, U.S.-based life sciences company Precision Coating Co., Inc. (PCCI), in its first move to a manufacturing site outside of the U.S., announced in a press statement today they will open a plant in Coyol, Alajuela at the end of the month.

The plant will employ sophisticated automated technology in the production of fluoropolymer and derivative coatings used in a wide variety of medical devices. The estimated eventual local staff will consist of around 30 people.

“Costa Rica offered the best combination of operating costs, human talent, and logistical advantages when we were considering the options for establishing a low-cost manufacturing center for our rapidly growing company,” said PCCI President Robert DeAngelis.

According to Jorge Sequeira, the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency’s general manager, over 19,000 Costa Ricans are currently employed in Costa Rica’s life sciences sector which is comprised of 68 companies.

Precision Coating will be looking for chemical engineers, and chemical and manufacturing technicians.

Precision Coating Co., Inc. is a subsidiary of Katahdin Inc., a company specializing in  high-tolerance coating applications and metal-finishing technology and services to the medical device and industrial markets.
