The bridge over the Virilla River along the main highway leading from San José to Alajuela’s international airport was partially closed last night from 10:00 until 5:00 this morning for repairs. All traffic from Alajuela to San José was completely closed during that time.

Thursday night-Friday morning, all traffic from San José-Alajuela on the main highway’s Virilla bridge will be closed during the same hours, announced the Transportation Ministry yesterday.

Alternate routes are through Heredia via Río Segundo, via Real Cariari to La Valencia, or through the Lagunilla area. Transit police will be directing traffic through these alternate routes.

The bridge is currently being expanded and reinforced. It will eventually be expanded to 6 lanes, three in each direction.
