Almost 300 Ticos that were traveling to Mexico for the Costa Rica – Mexico soccer game got stranded at the Juan Santamaría airport in Costa Rica.

The majority of them purchased a travel package with travel agency Continental Travels back in October of 2016 that included the airline ticket, accommodations, tours in Mexico City and the tickets for the Costa Rica vs. Mexico soccer game that takes place this Friday, however as they arrived to the airport they were informed that the agency had not paid the full amount for the charter flights that were supposed to take them to Mexico.

Passengers arrived to the Juan Santamaría Airport yesterday at 5 a.m and it was not until 11 p.m. when they received an official answer from the travel agency indicating that their flight will not be reprogrammed and they would be getting their money reimbursed, however they only gave each passenger under $100 and didn’t provide a date for the refund.

A second group of passengers were supposed to leave today (Thursday), but they faced the exact same situation.

Apparently the travel agency was supposed to have 5 charter flights programmed for this tour, but only 3 were actually paid, a group of ticos that are already in Mexico complaint that the agency left them hanging with no information on where they were supposed to go or even the details on the hotel they were going to stay at.

The travel agency said they had problems with their bank accounts and were not able to execute the payments.
