The body of U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Panama, Cody Oser, was found in a creek in the Comarca Ngäbe Bugle district in Northern Panama and identified on Sunday, April 9.

The 24-year-old left his home town of Broomfield, Colorado for his Peace Corps tenure on July 5, 2016, according to posts on his Facebook page. He and 46 other volunteers in Panama were sworn in September 20, 2016 by U.S. Ambassador to Panama John Feely.

Panama Peace Corps director Sheila Crowley confirmed the death of Oser, and lamented his passing saying, “Cody’s enthusiasm to help others and his ability to solve common problems are some of the reasons he was so loved by his fellow volunteers and the community he worked in.”

Before joining the Peace Corps, Oser worked as a temporary engineer for the city of Brighton, Colorado, according to his Facebook Page.

Cody graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and received minors in Business Administration and International Development in 2015; and had interned at SunCulture, which provides solar-powered drip kits to aid farmers in Kenya.

At the Peace Corps ceremony in September, Panamanian Minister of Agricultural Development Eduardo Enrique Carles, “praised their efforts to contribute to improving quality of life of farm workers and indigenous communities,” reported Newsroom Panama.
