American actor Adam West died yesterday in his home in Los Angeles, after a short battle with leukemia, he is survived by his wife, six children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

West was best known for portraying Batman in the 1960´s series and the 1966 film, when the series was cancelled West had trouble getting new film roles, but he reinvented himself doing voice-over work for series like The Simpsons, Futurama, Johnny Bravo, among others; however one of his most recognized works came from giving voice to the mayor of Quahog in Fox animated show Family Guy, “When Family Guy came around and Seth MacFarlane became brilliantly successful, he decided to call me and see what I was doing. He asked if I would like to come aboard as the mayor, and I thought it would be neat to do something sort of absurd and fun”, said West in an interview back in 2012.

He also had appearances in several TV Series like 30 Rock and The King of Queens and including a recent appearance in hit show ¨The Big Bang Theory¨.

The family issued a statement saying: “Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He was and always will be our hero”.
