As of this weekend the Parque de Diversiones, Costa Rica’s amusement park will be implementing a fast pass for its most popular attractions.

The “fast pass” popular in most US amusement parks will allow the holders to cut down the waiting time in some of the attractions. The park explained they will sell a limited amount of fast passes every day but the decision on how many will be available will be taken by the operations management depending on the demand and amount of public at the park each day.

The cost of the fast pass is of ¢14,000 (around US$25) and it will also work as their current special pass, which allows the user to get on each ride as many times as they want, though each time they have to abandon the ride and make the “fast pass” line again.

The new modality will only apply to some of the attractions, the most popular ones, which include the water attractions, Splash Caribe and Reventazón, the Bocaracá roller coaster, the Sky Master tower and Bumeran, among others.

In each of the attractions the person in charge will determine how many people with fast pass are allowed to get through first and then regular passes to complete the spaces in the attraction. According to the sales manager, Guido Muñoz, the pass was calculated technically so there is a balance between fast passes and regular or special passes.

This has generated criticism in social media by those who consider the option “unfair”.

For this Sunday, June 18 Parque de Diversiones has a Father’s day promotion were the father going with his daughter or son and buying the special pass will get a 2 x 1, in other words father’s don’t have to pay.

For the schools’ vacation period, Parque de Diversiones will bring back this year’s version of the Hunted House “La Fortaleza de Lirrod” which will be open to the public starting June 23.

The entrance to the park (without getting on any rides) is free, the special pass which gives you access to every attractions as many times as wanted has a cost of ¢8,100 (around US$14) and the fast pass ¢14.000 (close to US$25), there is also the possibility of just buying individual tickets for each ride.
