The Association Costa Rica por Siempre, a private non-profit association created in 2009 with the objective of contributing with the conservation of nature in Costa Rica, announced its partnership with Leonardo DiCaprio foundation to join efforts for the protection of the oceans.

“The Leonardo DiCaprio foundation (LDF) is dedicated to protecting the long-term health and well-being of all Earth’s inhabitants. Through collaborative partnerships, LDF supports innovative projects that protect vulnerable wildlife from extinction, while restoring balance to threatened ecosystems and communities”, explains the foundation’s website.

“We’re raising money for ocean conservation projects including initiatives to ensure the effective management of 16 marine protected areas and to help create 3 new ones in the next three years” explained the Association through a post on their Facebook page.

Just recently the Association Costa Rica por Siempre donated a dron to help protect the Ostional Wildlife Refuge in Guanacaste. This tool will help the park rangers in the surveillance, vigilance and monitoring of this refugee where thousands of sea turtles lay their eggs ever year. The park rangers underwent a three day training period to learn how to use this new technology.

“This is very useful, it will save us time and help us be more efficient in our job and help us prevent and stop illegal activities that endanger our ecosystem; while at the same time it will allow us to keep records through photographs and video for their further analysis”, explained Pablo Baltodano from the Ostional Wildlife Refugee.
